“We have had a range of guest speakers at our branch meetings but it was great to have Paul Kavanagh who writes the Wee Ginger Dug blog and a column in the National come to Paisley”, said Margaret Dymond, Convener of Paisley Tannahill SNP Branch.
Paul Kavanagh has been writing as the Wee Ginger Dug for a number of years and has become one of the most popular writers supporting Scottish Independence since before the referendum of 2014. He has also published collections of his online writing in a series of books. Paul spoke to the branch members for almost an hour and then took questions from the audience, all of whom appreciated him coming along to our meeting.
Branch Convenor Margaret Dymond said;
“We always ask branch members who they would like to come along as a guest speaker and Paul is always high up on the list so it was great to have him attend our AGM and provide an entertaining and thoughtful speech to the branch.
“It was also great that Paul brought along his ‘wee ginger dug’ who he named his blog and column after. At one stage I think the dog definitely upstaged Paul with more people wanting photos with it than with him!”
Branch Political Officer, Cllr Mags MacLaren added:
“We always try to keep the branch meeting informative and have a range of guest speakers coming along but Paul was definitely one of the more popular speakers we’ve had and this was reflected by the increased turnout of members at the meeting.
“One of the key messages that Paul delivered was the importance of being determined if we seek self-determination for Scotland. After the meeting I am sure our members are even more determined to campaign for Scotland’s independence.”
