“I am pleased to see this funding going direct to schools in my ward”, said Councillor Kenny MacLaren (SNP – Paisley Northwest) commenting on the Scottish Government announcement of over £4.2 million going to Renfrewshire via the Pupil Equity Fund, including £694,800 going to schools in Paisley Northwest.

The money will be spent at the discretion of teachers and school leaders on localised initiatives to close the poverty related attainment gap. The amounts to each school in Paisley Northwest are:
Glencoats Primary £146,400

  • Mossvale Primary £75,600
  • St Fergus £80,400
  • St James £49,200
  • St Marys £64,800
  • West Primary £152,400
  • Castlehead Secondary £108,00

Councillor Kenny MacLaren added:

“Every child should have the best possible start in life, no matter their background. Schools have a significant role to play in ensuring every child is given the right support to help them achieve their full potential.

“This funding is targeted towards schools who have the highest numbers of pupils receiving free school meals, so that the money is spent on the children who need it most.”
