SNP politicians Cllr Mags MacLaren & Mhairi Black MP are celebrating International Women’s Day on Thursday 8th March by encouraging women to register to vote.
Each year around the world, International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated on March 8. Hundreds of events occur not just on this day but throughout March to mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.
Cllr Mags MacLaren said:
”One of the key ways in which women can have a say in society is by using their right to vote and I would encourage them to make sure they are on the electoral register.
“Without a vote, women have no voice. It was a hard-won right and the importance of having a vote should never be overlooked.
“Without a vote you are effectively letting others make decisions for you.”
Mhairi Black MP said:
“Registering to vote is important to all women. We cannot increase the representation of women in politics if we aren’t registered to vote.”
