Make sure you’re signed up for Euro Vote

“It now looks more than likely that we will have an election for the European Parliament on Thursday 23rd May”, said Councillor Kenny MacLaren (SNP – Paisley Northwest), who is a member of the Renfrewshire Valuation Joint Board which maintains the electoral roll for Renfrewshire.

Scottish and European Union flags. Vector. The current Brexit fiasco which has now been extended to 31st October will mean that the UK will have to take part in the elections to the European Parliament, unless of course the Prime Minister’s dodgy Brexit deal can be approved by the UK Parliament in the next few weeks. That seems extremely unlikely as the splits in the Conservative Party are growing wider by the day. Therefore, it is more than likely there will be an election on 23rd May for the European Parliament. This means that anyone wanting to vote at this election has to be on the local electoral roll by the 7th May. This can be done online by visiting the following link:

Councillor Kenny MacLaren added:

“The failure of the current Tory Prime Minister to negotiate a Brexit deal – almost 3 years after the EU referendum – means that we will be facing a European election on 23rd May.

“Although Scotland voted to remain as part of the EU we are being dragged out due to the votes of England. The so called union of nations within the UK is a sham. Contrast Scotland’s treatment, where we have been ignored at every turn, to that of Ireland where their EU partners are standing up to protect that country and you can see how a real partnership of nations should work.

“We know that Brexit will be a political, economic and social disaster. The famous promises of the Leave campaign have all disappeared, instead of an extra £350million per week for the NHS, we have seen companies leave the UK with Brexit projected to cost Scotland anything from 80,000 to 150,000 jobs!

“Brexit has also emboldened the far right, with people like Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (under his Tommy Robinson guise) poisoning political debate across the country. Let’s not forget that the EU referendum was undermined by the Leave campaign which broke electoral rules on campaign expenses yet still the UK establishment are happy to go along with the fraudulent result.

“Scotland can do so much better then being tied to an increasingly right wing and scotland in europeisolationist UK. It’s important for everyone who wants a stronger, fairer Scotland to vote SNP at the Euro elections but you have to make sure you are on the electoral roll before 7th May to make your voice heard.”
