“’We would like to thank all Rainbow Nursery parents who contacted us and highlighted the importance of this nursery to them, their families and their community,” said Councillor Kenny MacLaren (SNP – Paisley Northwest).
Councillors Mags and Kenny MacLaren have welcomed plans to spend additional funding on Rainbow nursery which would keep it open for another year. This will give the nursery operator Childcare First the opportunity to work on a new funding model to keep the nursery open in the long term.
Cllr Kenny MacLaren said:
“We would also like to thank Cllr Jim Patterson for listening to the concerns of parents and finding additional funding to keep Rainbow Nursery open.
“It is disappointing that the other councillors in the ward, Cllr Karen Kennedy and Cllr John McIntyre, voted against this additional funding that will keep the Rainbow Nursery open. Instead they both voted for a Labour amendment which didn’t give a single penny to the nursery. It’s particularly disappointing that neither of them even bothered to contact the Education Convener to highlight their concern about the proposed closure. It seems making this issue a political football to raise their profile was Cllr Kennedy’s main concern rather than trying to keep the nursery open. Yet again actions speak louder than words.”
“This gives Childcare First the chance to create a new funding model to ensure the sustainability of the nursery. If they can’t do this then it allows time to find an alternative operator for the nursery.”
