“Like many people who support Scottish Independence, I’m well aware that the role of the BBC is not to report news but to manipulate any news stories to belittle Scotland’s campaign for Independence”, said Cllr Kenny MacLaren (SNP – Paisley Northwest).
The latest stunt – this time by Sarah Smith – was simply appalling. She claimed that the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon MSP, was ‘enjoying setting her own lockdown rules’ and that Scotland was out of step with the rest of the UK. Of course, we all know that Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland – and now cities in northern England such as Liverpool and Manchester – are still trying to stick to the Stay at Home message and its the Tory UK Government who is confusing the public in England by changing the coronavirus message. That, however, doesn’t suit the jaundiced view of the BBC who always try to belittle Scotland whenever they can.
Apparently after an online storm about her comments, Smith has said she made a mistake and meant to say that Nicola Sturgeon was ’embracing the opportunity to set different policies’. Not much of an apology and not even slightly true. Anyone who has watched the First Minister in recent months has seen the effort she has put in – presenting the vast majority of the press briefings and taking questions from all journalists. Unlike the Prime Minister who has barely attended any of the briefings – hoping that he can pin the blame on his cabinet when the public see through him and his failings!
No doubt there will be a flurry of complaints into the BBC for the entirely unprofessional conduct of Sarah Smith – after all its not the first time she’s abused her position to put forward her own political viewpoint. However, the BBC will treat these complaints withe the same derision that they’ve treated other complaints and they will be ignored.
If you are pissed off with the attitude of Sarah Smith and the BBC then the simplest solution is to simply stop paying the TV licence fee. Why should you pay the BBC to lie to you?
