“Shopmobility Paisley & District provides excellent services for all Renfrewshire residents from free daily scooter hire (for members – membership is free) to scooter repairs at reasonable costs and I thought this Virtual Kiltwalk was a chance to help the organisation,” said Councillor Kenny MacLaren (SNP – Paisley Northwest).
Cllr Kenny MacLaren has been a volunteer director of Shopmobility Paisley & District for just over a year, helping to support the organisation and promote the services that it provides. Shopmobility, based on the ground floor of the Paisley Centre Car Park in Storie Street, Paisley – aims to tackle social exclusion caused by mobility problems. One of the ways they do this is to offer free daily hire of mobility scooters and wheelchairs to their members – with membership being free for all Renfrewshire residents – and a small charge for either overnight or holiday hire of scooters and wheelchairs.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren added:
“I’ve obviously known how vital Shopmobility was for a number of years but my experience as a volunteer director has only strengthened my support for this essential charity which changes people’s lives by giving them back their freedom and confidence.
“When I realised the Virtual Kiltwalk was coming up (23rd-25th April) I immediately thought this would be a good way to show my support for Shopmobility, so signed up to do my bit. So I’ve committed to walking/ running/ hobbling 10 miles per day for each of the three days of the Virtual Kiltwalk!”
Richard Vassie, Chairperson of Shopmobility Paisley & District, said:
“Shopmobility relies on grants and fundraising activities such as the virtual kiltwalk to help raise the funds to keep the organisation going. Kenny has been a great help as a volunteer director and this fundraiser will help Shopmobility to continue to serve those with mobility problems in Renfrewshire.”
