SNP councillors Kenny MacLaren and Mags MacLaren have welcomed the publication of Renfrewshire Council’s draft Renfrewshire Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP), which will be discussed at Tuesday’s meeting of the council’s Communities, Housing and Planning Policy Board.
This plan sets out the council’s investment priorities over a five year period to achieve the housing supply targets and outcomes of the Renfrewshire Local Housing Strategy. Over the current 5 year period Renfrewshire has sought to build 1,000 new affordable homes. A recent audit has highlighted that despite the problems with the covid pandemic, 850 units have been completed but several sites are still under construction.
The SHIP also reveals that £19.942million is available for 2021/22 to help achieve the target.
Councillor Kenny MacLaren said:
“Consultation on the draft SHIP till take place between 24th August and 28th September, with local tenants and residents groups, local housing associations and others to gather as many views as possible on the priority projects.
“I’m obviously pleased to see the construction of new homes within my ward – Paisley Northwest – including the new housing in Ferguslie and the West End of Paisley. This will bring long awaited new homes into both areas.
Councillor Mags MacLaren added:
“It is important that anyone with an interest in the housing supply in Renfrewshire contributes to this consultation.
“It is also good to see within the plan the development of specialist housing such as the properties for older people at Westerfield House and also in Station Road.
“We are both looking forward to these new homes becoming available to tenants as soon as possible.”
